Desk Setup

2021 Macbook Pro 14" M1 Max - 64GB 500GB - This is my work laptop. I have been using Macs for work and university for 11 of the last 13 years1 - it’s a great machine, if only homebrew was a little better.
-
LG 34WN780 - 34" Ultrawide 1440p display which I got in late 2021 as my main work monitor. I specifically shopped for a non-curved monitor as the curved ones I had tried made me feel dizzy. I settled on 1440p as fractional scaling an 4k displays in general on Linux are a mess. I’d probably go for a 4k screen today.
-
Keychron Q10 - Recent addition and my keyboard of choice. I have been using a Das Keyboard for the last 4 years but it died on me. I’ve been really enjoing the smaller footprint and while it took a shortwhile I really like the Alice layout. Also the build quality is top-notch!
-
Apple Magic Trackpad - My “mouse” of choice. Apple’s Trackpads are second to none and before switching to a mechanical keyboard in my last year of university the MacBook’s integrated keyboard and trackpad were actually my peripherals of choice. I do own a MX Master (actually my second one, I’ve gone through one before) but for work I’ve settled on the more “immediate” action the trackpad gives.
-
Artemide Tolomeo - Coming from a family of architects I was exposed to quite a few “design classics”, especially when it comes to lamps. One that I always liked is the Tolomeo. I got this one second hand on ebay with a desk clamp. I has a warm white 1600lm dumb led bulb2 and I mostly use it as a key light replacement for video calls or as mood light.

The two year break was 2021-2023 during which I used a Thinkpad P14s with Arch Linux and i3. I really enjoyed it but it gave up on me and oh well office management only had a Macbook on hand as a replacement. ↩︎

I’ve tried a Philips Hue 1600lm bulb but that thing is so massive it wouldn’t fit the lamp. ↩︎
